This book was so captivating. I definitely enjoyed it. For the first book in a series, it does well to set the scene and build the world the rest of the novels will take place in. The idea of Shadowhunters who protect humans (or as they call them "mundanes") from demons is quite cool. I really liked Alec despite his grouchiness but I can understand why he dislikes Clary. All of the characters are great but I did feel sorry for him, especially when he gets injured.
