Wow, where do I even start? This book is a slow-burn thriller that’s gritty, unsettling, and so uniquely Winstead. Inspired by the University of Idaho murders, it blurs the line between art and real tragedy, making it both captivating and uncomfortable at times.
The story follows Janeway, a grieving daughter who dives into an online sleuthing community after her father’s death, only to get pulled into a chilling murder case on a college campus. The short chapters and darkly funny footnotes kept me hooked, but I couldn’t help wishing for more depth to Janeway herself. Still, the raw portrayal of grief—messy, consuming, and frustrating—felt so real.
