Revisiting Daevabad again with The River of Silver; a collection of fragments from Daevabad trilogy that were left unseen and might be unnecessary but it gets a highlight through this tale with plots that goes before, during and after the trilogy scenes. Thanks to the author who thinks that a story needs to grow and breathe that she decided to craft these amazing behind the scenes like narratives to complement the world of Daevabad with a deeper perspective on the worldbuilding, characterization and the plot arc itself.
I love most of the stories as to find these narratives absorbingly fit into those scenes that I have read previously giving me a heap of flashbacks and a thorough exploration through its conflicts, both family and racial ties, power struggles and the absolute magical adventure that led Nahri to unfold her twisty past. From story of Manizheh and Rustam, Dara and Nahri during their journey post-Hierapolis and the first encounter in between Hatset and Ghassan as well as both Muntadhir and Jamshid, I was also brought to explore the alternate scenes of the trilogy that did not make it to the final manuscripts; I have read the alternate epilogue to The Empire of Gold which included in the book itself but reading The Scout story that was originally written as an alternative prologue to The Kingdom of Copper gets me drown in another stunning perspective to the plot.
Appealing and still superbly narrated; always in awe with the author’s way in executing her idea to build the intricate setting and its engagingly crafted characters— a lush flavours of Middle East culture and politics that will twinge you emotionally with both its action and adventure and the magnificent legends of the djinns. An absolute must read to fans of Daevabad trilogy! 4.5 stars to this!
