In this graphic novel retelling of Madeleine L’Engle’s classic tale, Meg Murry, her brother Charles Wallace, and their new friend Calvin band together to try to discover the truth behind Meg’s father’s disappearance. An experimental scientist, Mr. Murry has been gone for quite some time, supposedly working on a classified project for the government. When Charles Wallace’s friend Mrs. Whatsit shows up at the Murry residence one night with new information that could lead to finding Mr. Murry, Meg, Charles, and Calvin set off on a dangerous quest through time that takes them far outside of the world they once knew. During their journey, all three of them discover that everything they once thought true has been disproved. They join the fight against the shadow of evil, and are tested in ways that challenge their very natures.
Hope Larson, with her monochromatic, striking panels, provides a vivid and loyal companion to Madeleine L’Engle’s long-appreciated novel. The graphic novel form lends itself well to this suspenseful and exciting story.
This book is highly recommended, especially for readers who are new to the graphic novel format.
