This book is AWESOME!!! Unlikely friends Nate and Charlie are pretty much total opposites personality-wise, but are best friends and neighbors. When Nate schemes to be student body president so he can allocate funds to the robotics team for the national championship, the cheerleaders (who want the funds for new uniforms) arrange an entire campaign for Charlie to run against him on the jock ticket (he's head of the basketball team). Each side takes turn embarrassing the other and then the principal steps in and declares that neither team will receive the money.

In a fun twist of events the science geeks, the cheerleaders, and Charlie team up to monsterize the robotics team's robot to send it to a robot rumble in hopes of winning $10,000 so that both teams can get what they want. The group of teens heads down to the rumble on Thanksgiving Day and cheer the robot on as it performs really well against some stiff competition, including last year's winning team.

Meanwhile, amidst all the scheming and dreaming, Charlie is dealing with the after-effects of his parents' divorce. His mother is living on the West Coast (Charlie lives on the East Coast), his father is often away on business, and his mother is moving on with a new man in her life who she wants to bring to visit for Thanksgiving.

The artwork is in black and white and blew me away. The action sequences were very well done. There's some great play by play panels of Charlie playing basketball that featured good pacing and really put reader's in the action.

Funny, realistic, believable characters, fresh plots, this book is a great read! I highly recommend this title for teens and up.
