“Shatter Me” by Tahereh Mafi is an interesting tale following a female main character that has been isolated most of her life. If you are interesting in Young Adult tales that are set in a dystopian universe, but looking for a peak into what it is like being traumatized, this is the book I would recommend. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of good moments in this book, however, I did keep coming back to this book and just thinking that the main characters trauma was pushing along a lot of the plot
Speaking of the main character, she is someone who believed that she would kill someone with her touch, and craved human connection and affection her entire life. Then you meet characters like Warner who idolize her because of her ability. Almost painting her as a ruthless killer. Then you have the duality of Adam and him idolizing her because of her grace and ability to be nice and sweet.
This book feels like a set up to the series. There wasn’t a ton of engaging plot for me, and seems to be more world building. Even though it is strange because we don’t get as much detail on how the world came to be. I believe that this felt really isolated, and near the end is when the main characters world starts to expand.
By all means I enjoyed the romance, and I enjoyed the characters overall. However, I am hoping that the future books will expand on this book, and not feel as isolated as this specific book did for me.
