A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

3.0

Game of Thrones isn’t a series that I was rushing to read. I watched, I think, three seasons of the show. If it weren’t for my friend offering to give me her copy, I probably still wouldn’t have gone to get the book. It’s a book that has only been on my TBR shelves for a matter of months, at number 87.

When I came to start reading, I did so before bed like I would most of my books. However, I couldn’t continue reading it at this time. I was confused. I’m not sure if I still had the show in my head or if I was confused about what was happening. For the first 60% of the book, I only read it during the day. Once I hit the 60% mark, I attempted to read it before bed again and could do so, only taking me around a week to read the final 40%. It has taken me a total of two months to read.

I may be in the minority in my opinion of this book, but I’ve read it, and doubt I’ll be doing so again. I enjoyed the Stark family and the Daenery perspectives. I want to re-watch the show's first season after reading the book, but otherwise, it’s not a favourite of mine. I have a copy of the second book on my shelf, so I will have a go at reading that. It is unlikely that I’ll get the books to read the rest of the series.
