After the War Is Over
by Jennifer Robson
I am not going to lie, the first half of the book had me really disappointed and I almost gave up on it.
After going from a clear 5 ⭐️s with Somewhere in France, I was super eager to read this “sequel” but it started so slow and it felt like not a lot was happening. I guess I just didn’t connect with Charlotte like I did with Lilly? I can’t really explain it.
I felt like the romance between Charlotte and Edward was an incredibly slow burn, to the point where I was actually convinced it wasn’t going to be a romance between them at all. The ending felt rushed and the epilogue was disappointing.
There were moments that I really enjoyed- Charlotte’s date with Mr Ellis, the scenes with Charlotte’s friends, the cottage in Cumbria, the flashbacks to tutoring Lilly and to the Christmas lunch during the first book. But overall, I feel like the book kinda fell flat and was a let down from Somewhere in France. I think my expectations were too high.
