That was just depressing. I mean, that's what Kristin Hannah does best, right? Gut-wrenching, emotionally devastating stories that leave you sad and wondering why you subjected yourself to these feelings in the name of entertainment.
But with Fly Away, I don't even know what to say. This novel is the sequl to Firefly Lane, which I enjoyed. In this book, though, I found both Tully and Marah to be selfish and insufferable. I understand that grief played a part in their actions and choices, but I found that they were both self-absorbed and blind to the shared grief AND love of those closest to them.
The near death experience was cliche. I was not emotionally invested with the plot or with most of the characters.
My favorite part was probably Dorothy/Cloud's backstory and redemption arc. It might be the only reason I kept reading.
