Just One Look by Lindsay Cameron

After reading consecutive stinkers from two of my favorite writers (Charles Willeford and Stephen King), it was refreshing to dive into this entertaining thriller from a new name.
I was searching for something corporate-y at the bookstore the other day and I came upon this one randomly after finding the authors name on a list of financial thrillers. This book wasn’t on said list but it was the only one available and I enjoyed it immensely and will read her other one.
If I think about this one too long, it won’t make much sense: lawyer gets hired as a temp agency, starts stalking one of the partners, but she also as a questionable background that slowly comes out. There are large gaps in it but Lindsay Cameron, a first time writer, keeps the story’s momentum going in a way that didn’t feel cheap. She builds the tension gradually enough, allowing me to gawk at the stupidity of the main character while also feeling empathy for her situation. Ending was predictable but what’s new? The journey was fun as is.
I was hoping more The Firm and less You. It definitely resembles the latter over the former. But it’s still a good mix of domestic suspense and corporate thriller. I’ll get Cameron’s other book soon and I hope she writes more. She’s definitely got talent.
