Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher

This book should have a huge disclaimer on the back: Warning: Gut-wrenching heartache ahead! Do not expect a happily ever after!

I think if I had known that going in, it wouldn't have been so bad. Yes, I loved this book. Yes, it was gripping and I couldn't put it down. Yes, it was well written. So what was so awful?

It's not that I disliked the heroine, it's just so sad to read about such a selfish and self-absorbed person who ends up also ruining her one big chance at happiness and in turn, another's life. I cried several times throughout.

On the plus side, I loved the way the story unfolded. Somehow, even though not much happens in the book since she is stuck forever in this cabin, it still manages to be super interesting.

Spoiler I do have to say that when you finally find out who kidnapped Senna, it felt a little contrived that the kidnapper actually had a great enough motive to go through all that trouble for an "experiment"
