Daylighters by Rachel Caine

5.0

I have no idea how to even start this review. Daylighters has been on my shelf since publication date waiting to be read, I just never got around to reading it, and I think part of that may be that I was reluctant to read Daylighters. I didn't want this series to end, to say goodbye to the characters that I have loved from the very first page of the very first book. Reading Daylighters would only confirm that this was the end.

It's very rare that I stick with a series that is so long. I think there is only one so far that I have read to the very end, but The Morganville Vampires managed to keep me interested, and also wanting more, and Daylighters did not lack for anything. We have the action, the bromance, the friendships, and the usual comedic one liners

“You brought me grenades. You are officially the best girlfriend ever.”
[Shane to Claire]

“Myrnin: "I think your ghost girl's afraid I'll try to bite her. I believe she may have, you know, mental issues...”
[Myrnin to Claire]

I loved getting to catch up with some faces from the previous books, I really liked how Shane, Claire, Michael, and Eve we all united on a way to rescue the vampires (who most of them they don't really like) and save Morganville from Fallon. No matter what is thrown in front of this motley crew, they always seem to make the best of a bad situation, even if they are handcuffed.

Daylighters was an unputdownable read, and I managed to read this one over the space of two nights (stupid work getting in the way). As I was nearing the end, part of me was expecting something to change, to be a lie. I really did not expect this to last at all, and each new page had me wondering, Would it be now?

Final Verdict
Daylighters was everything I expected from this series and more. Although I still wish it wasn't the end, I got the ending I wanted.
