Lullabies for Little Criminals
by Heather O'Neill
I initially read Lullabies For Little Criminals when it was first published 18 years ago. I loved it then and i love it now, but for entirely different reasons. In 2008 I was a new teacher in my late twenties and I hadn't read a lot of sensationalized content. This novel rocked the boat for me.
Now, as a mid 40s mother of an almost 12 year old, i am an entirely different reader and have a new POV of Baby, and Jules, this time. I am somewhat desensitized to the overt neglect, and more tuned in to the subtle heartbreak of Baby's pervasive loneliness.
