I loved how The Saint of Heartbreak expounds upon familiar biblical lore. The characters felt fleshed out beyond the original text and made into something unique to this book.

The relationship between the Judas and the Devil is complicated, especially by Judas' traumas. How can a man damned to eternal mourning ever hope for a better future? He sinks so far into himself that it starts to test even the Devil's apathy, and, at times, my patience. It takes a long time for his personality to start to peek through, so be prepared for a slow burn on all fronts. Once the walls come down, though, these two move much faster than I'd expected. Part of me wanted them to slow back down a bit.

Thanks to the Indie Ink Awards for the chance to check this book out during the judging process. While I do own a copy, I had not read it prior to judging. My review does not necessarily reflect what or how I scored the book.
