Not a masterpiece but funfun!! We love hot villains, nice heroes who discover maybe they’re not so nice, inner conflicts and heartbreaking relationships (when they love each other deeply but cannot be together because of their diverging destinies, YES give me more!!!). Seriously, Leigh Bardugo I love you. And very happy to have FINALLY met Nikolai, who I am very excited to read more about in the King of Scars duology.
One thing I maybe didn’t like: although it was quite long, I somehow felt that not a lot was going on compared to the first book. Objectively it did so just a weird impression I guess. Maybe because the Darkling wasn’t present all that much and he obviously adds a lot of thrill to the story. It was nice to see Alina evolve on her own though. Another thing: although the evolution of their relationship really made me suffer in the best way, sometimes the fights between Mal and Alina were a bit too frequent and felt repetitive. They were also annoying at times, but I mean, realistically, who isn’t? Still, I really enjoyed my read. Very excited for the next one.
