There are a lot of good parts here, such as the top notch word images and characterizations, but the whole is less than the sum of the parts. Just when you think the story is going to be one thing, it switches to another. Not necessarily a bad thing, but you just want to have the previous thing finished. This story also suffers from being a continuation of last year's [b:Binti|25667918|Binti (Binti, #1)|Nnedi Okorafor|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1433804020s/25667918.jpg|45491127]. Most of what you need to know is recapped, but I can imagine someone being confused if this is where they start. Perhaps more troubling, though, is that the story ends with a cliffhanger.
