Nine Lives
by Peter Swanson
Like all of his books this was so easy to read. I think that’s a good thing because I always enjoy them!! For some reason this one felt the most mature and well-architected, but there weren’t really any surprises. A couple of red herrings, a slight last minute twist. When we read about Caroline’s mother’s dream I knew instantly what this was all about / leading to. Getting to the end and actually digging into what happened, i personally had a hard time with the subject matter as a mom of 3 small kids. I think that means it was well executed just triggered me a bit and may not have picked up the book had I known (let’s be real, I would have). The letter/monologue at the end was just so painful to read and well written. Bummed it’s over but happy to put that sad story to bed at the same time.
