ashleylm 's review for:
A Tale of Time City
by Diana Wynne Jones
Sort of a high 3, because it's Diana Wynne Jones, and her worst book is better than most authors' best book, but amongst her oeuvre I can't get too excited about it. It was diverting enough, but it never really made any sense to me (I can suspend disbelief well enough, but this was sort of along the lines of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and "oh, we can fix that with an Orb of Geblooey", I never got the sense of "of course, an advanced society could certainly create x if they had y").
If you like her, give it a whirl as your mileage may vary. For me, it's a few tiers down. Pleasant, but not something I'd suggest anyone try as their first read of hers.
(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s). I feel a lot of readers automatically render any book they enjoy 5, but I grade on a curve!
