Birds of America by Lorrie Moore

3.0

So I started reading this book because of an amazing short story of Lorrie Moore's that I read in the Mistress's Sparrow collection. It was called "How to Be an Other Woman," and it was the cat's pajamas.

And some of the stories in this collection are good, but none are as good as that first one, in my opinion. Her topics are edgy and interesting, and the writing is good, but for whatever reason, none of them really hooked me like "Other Woman" did. I've since read that Moore herself considers "Other Woman" to be an immature story that she's now somewhat embarrassed of, and I find that very interesting, considering I don't like anything else of hers nearly as much.

But if you're a huge Lorrie Moore fan, I'm sure this is the collection for you. And I wouldn't say, "don't read it," I'd just say, "yeah, it was aight."
