Urchin and the Heartstone by M.I. McAllister

4.0

This is the first Mistmantle book I read (I know -- out of order.) Initially I thought it was simply a Redwall ripoff (I mean -- really? The castle is made of red sandstone?) But in many ways it's more nuanced than my friends from Mossflower ever could be.

Sadly, Brian Jacques is dead. But Margaret McAllister is not. And these books are just as enjoyable as Redwall in its heyday. I look forward to Urchin's continued adventures.
