The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart

4.0

Opened Pandora’s box starting this series, and I’m thrilled. This first installment was GOOD and feels underrated and slept on?? Such unique magic systems that at first felt disorganized, however came together quite well at the end with some heavy plot twists. It’s giving The Fifth Season + kandra (from Mistborn)-like creatures + Westworld "kill the gods" philosophy + Pirates of the Caribbean setting? But truly doesn't compare to anything else I've ever read.

Update: after sitting on it and reading book 2, I do feel like the writing/dialogue is too rudimentary for me, it feels very clunky. I still love the concept and magic system!
