Phineas Redux by Anthony Trollope

4.0

If you think politics one time used to be a high-minded thing, you should read Trollope. He would disabuse you of that notion.

In this book we follow the career of the Irishman, Phineas Finn - his rise, his near-fatal fall, and, we hope his HEA.

I do have a new literary heroine: Madame Marie Max Goesler. The ultimate in sensible women, she takes a high place in my pantheon of admirable women that I wish I knew in real life.

And Lady Laura Kennedy takes *her* place in the long line of literary women I would like to slap.

But that's just me.
