The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

5.0

CW: self-harm, child abuse

Updated Review (November 2020):
I wrote this original review when I was relatively new to Goodreads and I wanted to sound Well Rounded and Professionalâ„¢ because these reviews go on the Internet, and also I was trying to convince the world I have very good literary taste.
I'm well past that now and I can say with absolutely certainty, I was being an idiot.
I love and adore this book to absolute death. I cried, I yelled, I made lots of ridiculous squeaky noises... ugh it's so good. There's a reason this book is such a big deal, honestly.

Though, to give my past self some credit, it was my first five-star, non-reread novel of the year.

Original Review (April 2019):
The star marker isn't necessarily a comment on the writing so as much as a comment on how much I enjoyed this book. I've read a bunch of books so far this year, but I was hoping to find a five-star-er that 1.) wasn't a short story/novella and 2.) was something I had not read before.
I LOVED this book. It took a little bit, but once I got through chapter 3 or 4, I was hooked. I had an amazing time reading it and I'm super excited to read the rest of the series. I was emotionally attached to nearly all the characters and I love Blue's family, I think they're so interesting. Ganesy is my favorite boy by far.
I don't know what else to say besides if you like the genre, I really think you'll enjoy this book. It has a lot of typical tropes but I liked the way they were played with and I found the story to be strong for what it is. If you don't like the genre, then I don't know what to say besides you probably won't be that into it.
But boy did I have an awesome time reading this.
