My Mute Girlfriend
by Himanshu Rai
To be very honest I was a little reluctant to read yet another love story since I had made up my mind to take a break from that genre. The first impression about the book wasn’t that great - judged solely on basis of the cover and the blurb. But My Mute Girlfriend is a decent attempt by the author – it was interesting throughout with potentially impressive characters.

The story is based in an old-school time – phone booths, teenage love, non-digital era etc. The protagonist of the story is Rohan, who is going through some serious love life issues – whom is he in love with – Vaidehi or Navya. While he is soon successful in coming to that conclusion, like all relationships there were ups and downs which are revealed as one proceeds with the story. The good part about this book is the marriage between love and friendship which is very well highlighted.

I am sure the name of the book will get readers to speculate and to know more you should read it. The narration is done in first person and the author has played well with words. The author has made a good attempt in giving life to the characters, though at certain points I felt they fell flat in dialogue delivery. The plot and climax are well put and overall it wasn’t a bummer.

I would recommend the book if you’re a love story fanatic and someone who doesn’t despise a little sad-story reading.
