A sweet story and the last fourth made the entire book worth reading. I only wish that there had been more character development and detailed descriptions. This book lacks the standalone symbolism that makes The Giver so widely beloved. Gathering Blue has all of the same simplistic word-choices, but without the symbolism to pack the punches, it felt that something was lacking to make me want to cheer on the new main characters.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it all ties together in the next two books.
