spillthereads 's review for:
Vladimir
by Julia May Jonas
This book lives rent-free in my mind and I will forever be obsessed with our unhinged protagonist and the people in her world. I don't know how to properly convey my feelings towards this book beyond saying I loved it but I will try.
At first glance, the story seems a little depressing. An unnamed professor navigating life on campus while her husband, a fellow professor, faces allegations of sexual misconduct from students. Despite the grim situation, it's actually a super fun book with really well written characters who are all so endearing it's crazy. I even felt for the horny loser husband and cheating daughter who can't commit to her partner. Everyone is chaotic and complex. A joy to read. I loved watching our protagonist unravel from her obsession with Vladimir... hubba hubba...
The climax of this story is just so fitting and wild. Unexpected ending that kind of fits, but a little sad.
