3.25 ⭐⭐⭐ (the 0.25 only because of the lesbians)
Such a great start; I wish the rest of the book had been like that.
The plot is very interesting, but it gets dragged down by the way the author chose to develop it. The dream sequences, for example, are fun at the beginning, but after some time, they get stale. When the thing that the protagonist has been dreaming so much about finally becomes real, I thought it was another one of her dreams, lmao.
Aside from the MC, Ji-won, the rest of the characters didn't resonate with me (and Umma annoyed the hell out of me multiple times), so if something happened to them, I would just shrug and keep reading.
Oh, and the ending? Super convenient and convoluted to even be believable. (view spoiler) That sort-of cliffhanger (but not really) didn't make it any better.
NEVERTHELESS, it's a fun book overall! I don't think it’s extremely gross, but if you aren't used to body horror, I can see how it could creep you out.
I would recommend this to someone who's looking for complicated family dynamics with a touch of social critique and female rage (I hate that term, but that's what this book is).
I don't know how to end reviews, so yeah, don't eat eyes even if your stepfather is a disgusting pig, I guess...
