The Secret Place by Tana French

5.0

My head is just spinning finishing the fifth novel in the Dublin Murder Squad series by Tana French. She has woven an amazing tale here and I feel tied up in it with no escape in sight. This one can do a number on your head.

French uses a new structure in The Secret Place—alternating chapters between Detective Stephen Moran and uses an omniscient narrator with the girls at St. Kilda’s. And it works beautifully.

French also dips a toe into the paranormal with this. But it whirls around you, so gauzy you never quite grasp it fully, just little hints and small actions leave you wondering “how is this happening, why and what does it mean?”

More thoughts to come.

This really blew me away.
