Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

3.0

3.5 - Good, but not that great. I could potentially round it up to 4 stars. Jules is a sympathetic protagonist and Sager's writing style is engaging, if not somewhat repetitive by the end of the book. The Bartholemew is a horrifyingly vivid setting, which kept me reading long after I had formed an idea of what was going on - by the time Nick was introduced as a love interest, it was pretty clear he was the killer.

Especially after reading Final Girls, I'm of the opinion that the twist at the end isn't as book-ruining as other reviews make it out to be. It feels like a natural conclusion, especially after the author threw that ridiculous Satanist red herring at us. In the end, it's not the paranormal that's the villain, it's the utterly normal greed of the rich and powerful - which I think makes this a pretty timely read.
