The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee
2.0

I struggled with this book. I loved the idea of the main character being an Asian American woman who overcomes all kind of challenges; however, this storyline is almost offensively unrealistic—the girl gets the boy, the job, independence, the respect of her community, etc. I feel like her conquering of everything and the ease in which she does so cheapens/undermines the experiences of real women who lived in that oppressive era. Bleh.
