A Silent Voice, Vol. 1 by Yoshitoki Oima

3.0

When I first head of A Silent Voice all I knew was that it had a deaf character and it was supposed to be a sad romance or whatever, so I didn't realize that there would be bullying.

I personally hate bullying of anyone who is deaf especially because I had to deal with people always being rude and making fun of my parents for being deaf, so I don't take it lightly at all and I don't like that the hero bullied because of it at all. I also don't like how "his friends" and other classmates who are also bullies for getting away for their actions and turning on him. They are equally as bad as the hero. Also, that teacher is fucking pathetic. He could've handled everything so much better, but all he wanted was the hero to be bullied as well and you can tell he did not give two fucks about the heroine because he said some shitty stuff about her being deaf. I also don't like that he's alone for so long because in a short time we see him trying to atone for his actions, which is the only saving grace for this first volume.

I understand that the author is trying to shed light on bullying and it's affects, but ehhh. I don't like it and it pissed me off for most of the volume and I'm a little off put for the rest of manga. I'm not sure how the first volume is even good tbh. I'm still curious about the way the hero will atone for what he did and how the heroine will forgive him, and how they'll eventually fall in love, so I'll continue, but the first volume is ehhhh.
