The High Lord by Trudi Canavan
my review of the whole series, does contain spoilers :)
+ overall very grippling
+ I liked the magic school / university vibes and research core
+ vibes of many of the characters are cool :)
0 part 1 of the first book does read like a debut
0 I found the story sometimes a bit predictable, still fun though
+ liked the gay romance, but
- they didn't even get one on-screen kiss ??? :(
-- the main character Sonea doesn't have any actual friends (only guys where there's some kind of romantic involvement?? and even if that's properly resolved like with Cery, they don't feel like friends); I am a big fan of friendship stories so I'm sad about that
-- the second part of the third book would have been so much better if her and Akkarin would have just been friends and in allegiance !!! you could have made the exact same story but better (as I also did find their romance not super well developed and a bit weird)
-- this is YA, why tf did it need to have a pregnancy in the end :(((
