Not at all what I was expecting based on the book jacket, but what I got was profound and lovely. The last 40 pages or so actually made me cry. I do think the book relies a little too much on coincidence for setup, but it also made me cry over an octopus, and the rest of the payoff also made me feel all kinds of wistful heart-squeezy things, too, so. I feel like the coincidence thing can be overlooked. What a beautiful story.
