An Ideal Husband by Erica James
Did not finish book. Stopped at 70%.
I honestly disliked almost all the elements of this book. The book is called ‘A ideal husband’ but we barely explore what Kip was like as the ‘ideal husband’ before he tore his family apart with his affair. He also clearly was not an ideal husband if he had been lying to his wife about being unhappy and doing nothing to fix the relationship and then cheating on her. I think this was a bad choice of title.
The book not only follows (chapters in POV) Kip and his new girlfriend, the wife he left Louisa, but also there 3 children and their partners. I think there were two many sub story lines to follow. It would have made more sense to follow Louisa and how she deals with the fall out maybe touching on how it also affects the other adult children and a bit about how it wasn’t how he expected. Instead we are pulled off into the story of three marriages, dating, babies and arguments. There are too many directions to feel like you deeply touched any of them. The author also brings in side characters that were that were just forgotten about, like Louisa’s sister who literally tells her to get over the affair and move on only a few months after it happens.
Majority of the characters we followed were unlikable and unrealistic and they didn’t experience any character growth as the book went on. I would not recommend!
