Deliver Me by Elle Nash

5.0

Deliver Me by Elle Nash was my first read and my first five-star read of the year. I absolutely loved this book. It's dark, it's bleak, and it's strange. All that works together to make near perfection. Daisy aka Dee-Dee, works at a chicken meatpacking plant (check your triggers!), her boyfriend Daddy has a bug obsession, and all Dee-Dee wants is to be a mom. Her childhood friend returning and her own mom only complicate things.

Dee-Dee's desperation is apparent, and her journey to motherhood is like no other. Nash does not shy away from violence and descriptive animal abuse, but I can deal with that. As Dee-Dee gets closer to motherhood, her life spirals more and more.

The book definitely explores how it's easy for some to become moms and a bit of what it might feel like for those who it's not easy for. This book reminds me a bit of an Otessa Mosfegh book due to it being a bit bizarre. I will definitely be checking out more of Nash's books.
