It’s wild to look at a life of pain and heartbreak and trace it all the way back to when it broke. Victoria’s family was deep in grief and anger when she met the love of her life and even Will’s bright light couldn’t fix everything. This book was sad but in all the historically accurate ways that life was sad in those times. Men returning broken from war, if they did return at all, less rights for women and people of color and no way to work through their issues other than alcohol and drugs, it made for a very tough time.
