The Scarlet Gospels by Clive Barker

dark medium-paced

1.5

My only exposure to Clive Barker before reading this was in film, and after reading this I'm not in a rush to read more.

The characters were bland, with Pinhead lacking a lot of the mystique that made me want to pick this up in the first place. Harry is a fairly standard detective-type.

Much of the plot consists of the group carving their way through hell with relative ease. What little tension there was collapsed around the point the group picks up what is effectively a super hero team name ('The Harrowers').

It had its moments - strongest in the middle - but ultimately disappointing.
