Sunshine by Robin McKinley

5.0

Wow.
So well written.

First off, I loved the main character, the narrator. She (Sunshine) was this barely-graduated-from-high-school, dating-a-biker, screams-at-her-mother bitch. She was perfect. I loved how flawed she was. And she had a fantastic sense of humor, at the most unexpected times. [One star!]

The plot was not overdone- it was understated. Not everything had every little detail spelled out for the reader. You had to use some intuition to figure things out. Also, the ending was not final. I appreciated that the ending was the beginning of a longer struggle. It was as if the book was the story of Sunshine's decisions for the future struggle, rather than the entire story itself. If that makes any sense. (Sounded better in my head.) [One star!]

I also loved the grammar. I know that sounds strange, but sometimes you've just got to give the author props for using unusual words (I had to use dictionary.com twice, and that's rare) and using them correctly and unobtrusively (there's nothing worse than show-off grammar that smacks you in the face very two paragraphs). [Two stars!]

All in all, this was thoroughly entertaining, I read it in three days, and I will most definitely be recommending it to anyone who wants to read a good, gory, humorous vampire book that is NOT loaded with romance and sex [Yeah, that's another star!].
