The Trees Grew Because I Bled There: Collected Stories by Eric LaRocca

4.0

What a wild book! Eight very different stories yet all shared the same overall connecting theme: loss and grief. Each tale dealt with some sort of loss while grief of said loss was dealt with in various ways. Moreover, it had a huge body horror count throughout and the main characters (more specifically their actions and motivations) within each tale were truly disturbing, yet that is all of what made this a pretty fascinating and entertaining read.

I find it difficult to rate anthology/short story collection works as a whole book. So I rate each individual story and base my overall rating on the average. Turned out to be a 4 star rating for this book. I’m not going to list the stories and each rating I gave them here so I’ll just simply say I liked some stories better than others, which goes without saying pretty much for any collection work or any reader. I do highly recommend this book.
