Notes on Grief by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

5.0

I'm a little over 8 months from my own father's passing and so Adichie's notes on her own grief of losing her father are cruelly relevant.

"Grief telling you it is over and your heart saying it is not; grief trying to shrink your love to the past and your heart saying it is present."

"No, I am not imagining it. Yes, my father truly was lovely."

"I am writing about my father in the past tense, and I cannot believe I'm writing about my father in the past tense."

So many similarities in the circumstances... and of course innumerable differences... But it is clear we both felt very precious and loved by our respective fathers and that (along with my faith in a future reunion) shades the pain with some peace.
