Bound By Moonlight by Nancy Gideon

2.0

So it's pretty safe to say that I'm not the intended target audience for this book. I've never been a huge fan of romance novels since I passed my freshmen year in high school and I've only gotten worse as I've gotten older. I would find myself skimming the sex scenes, although hot as they were (I think) to get to the plot again. All that lovey dovey emotional stuff just doesn't do it for me. I kept rolling my eyes.

With that said however, the book was much better than I anticipated. It was the fourth in the series and I haven't read the first three books but that didn't hinder my ability to grasp the plot and characters easily enough. Gideon does enough explaining in the book to give new readers a firm grasp on what's going on and why certain characters are reacting the way they are.

The authors writing style is solid and decent with an easy flow. I wasn't jarred by irritating choppiness or stale grammar. The plot was engaging with enough different threads being woven together that there wasn't any stall to the story's movement.

I was greatly reminded of J.D. Robb's Death series and Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series. Gideon uses the same formula of gorgeous, rich, deadly man; tough, aggressive, naturally beautiful, and law working heroine; surrounded by an alternate USA with supernatural leanings and lots of crime to be solved; and a solid yet rocky relationship that is needed to solve the mysteries.

If you are fans of the paranormal suspense and romance stories then you'll love this book.
