Faithless in Death by J.D. Robb
4.0

The Eve Dallas In Death series is still going strong! This is #52 and was a particularly moving book featuring a white supremacist cult called “Natural Order” that does horrifying things in the name of their cause : “It’s money and power used to perpetuate and spread an ugly vision.” Very similar vision and operation to the Handmaid’s tale with women being abducted, forced into unwanted marriages, enslaved labor, rape, forced pregnancies. Also systems for forced sterilization and murder for homosexuals and people of mixed race - anyone not considered part of the pure “natural order.” Roarke’s women’s shelter plays a key role in this book and is beautiful to see in action - the real world needs more safe havens like it for women and children trying to escape from domestic violence and abuse. My heart really goes out to women struggling with abuse during this pandemic and having limited options for safety and shelter. I listened to this on audio and just realized the In death books are narrated by Susan Ericksen - the same woman who narrates the Firefly lane books by Kristin Hannah - she is a great and distinct voice - there are some narrators who stand out and she is one of my new favourites!! If you haven’t gotten into the Eve Dallas series yet you are missing out!
