All Bree has ever wanted is to find out what happened to her mother and why she died so young. She has worked to infiltrate the Legendborn Order and learned more about her mother and her heritage than she could have ever thought. Now she must figure out what comes next when Nick is kidnapped and noone seems to know where to start looking or appears to want to start looking. Bree, Sel, Alice, and Will will embark on a journey that will lead them to many new discoveries and meet many people. Will they be able to find Nick and bring about a much needed change?

I have had this book on my tbr since reading Legendborn last year. I somewhat intentionally postponed reading it because I figured that there would be a cliff hanger and I did not want to wait longer than needed for the next installment. I was not wrong in my reasons for waiting and thinking about it now I probably should have waited a little longer. This story continues to be incredible. I loved that world that Tracy Deonn has created in this series. I have never read a fantasy series that centered around King Arthur and I have to say that I am loving every minute.

I started this book by listening to the audio version and while I was really enjoying the audio I found that I was having a challenging time getting fully engrossed. Thankfully my library rental timed out and I had taken out the physical book from the library and I was able to finish the book that way. Physically reading this series is the way to go for me personally. While the audio book was fun reading the words for this story made it more impactful for me.

Bree as the FMC is absolutely incredible. The number of times that my heart broke for her, I don’t think that I can count. She faces incredible challenges and never backs down from doing what she believes is right/in the best interest of those she loves. Continuing to watch her grow and fully embrace who she is was incredible to read. I am very excited to see where the next book will take her character.

I love the friendship that develops more between Sel, Bree, William, and Alice. I found their interactions to be so much fun and felt that all of them together really balanced each other out. I enjoyed that the number of characters that were being focused on decreased in this book. I felt that  I was able to get a better understanding of these specific characters and I really enjoyed that because they are incredible.

Overall I really liked this book. It is on the longer side but it is engaging. I think it took me so long because I was getting slightly burnt out on fantasy books and needed a switch up. The pace was medium and the chapters varied in length. I am definitely excited to see where the rest of this series will go.
