burialshroud 's review for:
Grave Secret
by Charlaine Harris
This is the final book in the Harper Connelly series. Ultimately I found the whole thing pretty depressing. Harper the human cadaver dog and her pock-marked brother/lover Tolliver meet small-town prejudices wherever they go, ponder their hard-luck childhood and try to reconnect with their sisters. It's tiresome to read about.
Grave Secret has its own monster-of-the-week mystery as well as dealing with the ongoing question of what happened to Harper's missing sister Cameron. As this is the conclusion of the series, the Cameron conundrum is solved. It's hard to say which of these storylines feels more tacked-on, as the central event of the book is Tolliver being shot. Page after page is taken up with blather about how weak he looks and how he'll be looked after when he leaves the hospital. Why bother with an intriguing mystery when you've got an injury to write about! Gah!
