She's Dating the Gangster by Bianca B. Bernardino

So, you know whenever you watch a kids' show you find plainly stupid (Dora the Explorer, for instance) and the next thing you know you're completely hypnotized and lured by the end of it? That's what happened to me tonight with this book.
I nearly gave up on this one. My only motivation was my curosity that forced me to flip pages just so I'd know what would happen next. Despite that, I must say that I did not at all like this book. I think it's safe to say that it is pretentious and cliche. I get that they're trying to feed us with bits of Koreanovela cuteness, which we Filipinos love, but I don't think it worked quite right. Too predictable. And the ending is seriously a rip-off of a popular book/movie (hint: it's by Nicholas Sparks). In addition, I found a lot of moments corny and found myself 'wtf-ing' a lot. I think that a big factor that contributed that caused this is because the story was being rushed. The storyline was good and a lot could have been done to it but everything happened so quickly that there was not enough time for character development. Also, don't get me started on the dialogue. And the excessive use of "?!"'s.
I cannot compare it to the original Wattpad version because I have not read that. I'm assuming that it had better pacing in the Wattpad version (and that it is generally better) because there is not much limit unlike the published book. (idk im just guessing lol)
All in all, I would say that I'm happy that this online story was successfully published. It inspires young writers to show their work and it is great that there are social networking communities that are able to cater these demands.
Please don't immediately turn down this book because of my fairly low rating. I think this story deserves to be read, it is just a matter of a reader's likes and dislikes. Happy reading!
