Sleeping Beauties by Owen King, Stephen King

4.0

This book wasn't as good as other Stephen King's works, but I still enjoyed it very much. In the end I randomly picked up a book literally talking about current problems resulting in movements like feminism and Black Lives Matter

Pros:
1) At first I wasn't totally sure whether this book was faminist or sexist. Then everyting became clear and fine. And as a additional success. Women's chest areas were described only 3 times. (Btw just out of curiosity. Why are the boobs of women from SK novels always either very large or very small. I've never heard him talk about mediums and... Sorry for late-night nonsense)

2) The concept was so interesting. I don't want to say more because of spoilers, obviously, but I just loved it

3) Although Evie was here and there a bit annoying I still liked her mystique. This might be a really weird comparisn, but in a lot of ways she was like the Sleeping Beauties' Pennywise. You know that mysterious supernatural figure who is somehow in someway the key to everything, but you can't really walk up to the and ask what to do. Also, her game addiction was so relatable and honestly, in this way she stood for all the women more than ever. You remember that phase when every mom was addicted to Candy Crush?

4) I adore how most of the Stephen King novels make me feel like everyone's story matters and everyone's important. Sleeping Beauties made this effect more intense than ever.

5) It took me a while to get to know some characters, but the instant I did I started to care so much and was dying to know what would happen to them next.

6) There wasn't really a main character. Some might say Clint and Frank, but hearing that my brain goes like: and what about... Lila. Evie. Angel. Janette. Michaela. Tifanny. Janice. Magda. Don (unfortunately). This really connects to pro number 4. ALL LIFES MATTER

Cons:
1) I didn't really like the action scenes, so the whole last battle was a bit boring :/ (Just my opinion. If it anyone makes feel better I don't really enjoy action scenes in general, unless they are very high stakes and well-written and this just wasn't so impactful on me)

2) Being such a great writer, it isn't really a good idea to write a book about sleeping people. The reason why it took me so long to finish this was because I kept falling asleep while reading it. And not because I was bored. But because somehow I felt empatetic with all the characters. It's funny how such a trivial thing people have in common can bond them so easily. Alhtough everything I said here is meant as positively as it could be, I still consider this a con, because it was a real pain to be tired all the time after and while reading.

Conclusion:
If you're looking for a good book to make you think about current affairs (as of end of June 2020 - yeah this year really sucks) or just messed up society in general this one is really great, BUT only if you have a huge cup of coffee lying beside you.
