I almost dnf'd this book several times but it's Steinbeck and only a 150 pages so I pushed through. Basically a bunch of  ex-military men, jobless, drinking wine, manipulating one another, stealing, talking about 12 - 15 year old girls, as if they are women. It was very repetitive, some racism against blacks, jews, and indigenous people.
