How to Write an Autobiographical Novel: Essays by Alexander Chee

challenging dark emotional funny hopeful informative inspiring reflective sad slow-paced

5.0

Alexander Chee’s collection of essays written on life, writing, politics, and identity are conversational and move from essay to essay thoughtfully carrying you along as he writes about his life with beautiful reflection and searing honesty. Chee’s writing is expansive, engaging and touchingly intimate.
The defence of and passion for the practice of writing Chee conveys throughout these essays is undeniable and convinced me that it is clearly what he was made to do.
Practical advice is found in abundance here but this reads as a memoir that I know will be on my mind for some time to come.
