The story starts off with the matriarch of a family who goes missing, and as her children and husband search for her, bits and pieces of this woman's life become revealed to each of them. They begin to realize how little they knew of her, how little they cared for her, and how little they showed their deep love and appreciation for her. Some moments are truly touching and poignant, but I do think that the book fell apart towards the latter 1/3 of the book due to the fact that this book was translated into English from Korean, and much of the impact and meaning of the words could not translate over.
