Being American and living in a world where things you read and see our censorship. Protesting and hate crimes are happening and targeting Asian Americans. Children are being separated from their parents for being unpatriotic. When Bird finds a mysterious letter he is sets out to find her. A mother who left him and his father years ago and he wants to know why.

I enjoyed the idea of this book. It was interesting to read and after reading the authors note at the end this all made since of how her idea came to be as a story. I wanted more action more detail on the “unpatriotic  episodes”. Overall I give this book a B+

TW: Hate crime and violence. Section involving a dog.
